Summary

Responsible for contacting citizens, via telephone, in person, and online, who are requesting police services and generating offense reports and other Police Department documents generated from these calls. This position will utilize a telephone, Garland Police Department mainframe computer and PC Network and computer software.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
  • Assist the public via phone, e-mail, or in person as required to provide information regarding programs, office hours and other related information.

  • Record complainant's information and other relevant data.

  • Generate and provide offense reports and department documentation and reports for citizens and/or management as needed.

  • Prepare and maintain reports with speed and accuracy without the use of a computer keyboard.

  • Assist in control of equipment and supplies.

  • Enforce and maintain City and Departmental policies as needed.

Minimum Qualifications
  • High School Diploma or General Equivalency Diploma (GED)

  • 1 year office experience, including public contact

  • Typing speed of 30 WPM

  • Or an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential functions of the job.

Preferred Qualifications

Education/ Experience:

  • 1-3 years experience working in an office environment (police agency preferred)

  • Multi-lingual abilities preferred

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
  • Knowledge of the principles and practices of customer service and telephone procedures found in professional building offices

  • Knowledge of the principles, practices, and methods of modern office operations, including business English, spelling and grammar

  • Skill to operate a computer keyboard and interact with computer programs ranging from data entry to content creation

  • Ability to obtain essential information without losing composure from persons who may be excited, distraught, incoherent, injured, or for other reasons are unable to speak or think clearly

  • Ability to make decisions in accordance with rules and regulations and apply such decisions to work problems under both normal and adverse conditions Ability to maintain confidentiality

  • Ability to understand and implement moderately complex oral and written instructions

  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with other employees and the public

Licenses and Certifications
  • Valid Class C Texas driver's license
